History of the Totzenburg

The Trotzenburg

The word "burg" means castle in German, however, the origins of the name "Trotzenburg" are a little misteading as were was never a castle situated here.
It's possible that this homesteadwas built like a castle besause only then could the inhabitants be protected from robbers and bandits.

In 1839 the "Holzwärter Moll" took over the old forester's house and established a tavern, that would later develop into a restaurant..

In 1899 the huntsman and forester Robert Schramm opened the deer garden.

More and more day-trippers began visiting the restaurant and through its relaxing atmosphere and "Hausmannsküche" would become very popular.

A wagon trail led to the forester's house and from 1904 onwards an electric tram was added. .

In 1913  the restaurant took on the name "Trotzenburg".

By the end of the 1980's trotzenburg fell into disrepair and was threatened with being demolished.
In 1998 the Rostocker Peter hadler acquired the dilapidated Trotzenburg and established in 2001 the current business in conjunction with the Ostsee Brauhaus AG.
